If you're struggling with ticket resellers, we hear you. This feature helps discourage unauthorized resale by introducing barriers that make it harder for resellers to distribute tickets.

Delaying access to tickets lets you keep email delivery in place while controlling when tickets become available. Buyers still receive the confirmation email and link as usual, but the ticket page won’t display their tickets until your specified time. This added flexibility makes it harder for resellers to send ticket details in advance and is also useful when event details aren’t fully finalized at the time of sale.

In this article, we'll go over how to delay access to mobile tickets--let's jump in!

Use with Reseller Warning for added protection: The Reseller Warning shows a prominent message at the top of the tickets page informing users that reseller-issued tickets may not be valid. This helps prevent resellers from bypassing delayed ticket access, since they can’t share ticket links in advance without the warning that those tickets may not be valid.

Delaying ticket access

You can control when emailed tickets become available to ticket buyers after purchase by specifying how many hours before an event tickets should appear online. Buyers will receive the link in their confirmation email as normal, but the page won't display their tickets until the date and time you specify.

This added flexibility can help reduce speculative resale activity and may also be useful when event details are still being finalized at the time tickets go on sale.

This delays when resellers get access to mobile tickets so that they can't provide others with the tickets until you choose to release them.

We recommend using the delay period (i.e., the time before tickets become available) to review Ticket Orders and update the Delivery Method for any orders deemed suspicious or potential resellers.

This is set on individual Ticketable Events, so you can also determine which of your events have delayed mobile ticket availability--it does not have to be all or nothing!

We recommend pairing delayed mobile ticket availability with Pre-Show Emails!

This allows you to send your patrons their mobile tickets again, closer to the event and after tickets are accessible.

These steps show you how to delay mobile ticket availability for already-built Ticketable Events.

If you're building a new Ticketable Event, you can also set a value the field in step 4 when you first build the event!

Changing this setting on existing Ticketable Events won’t affect tickets that buyers have already accessed at the time of purchase, if they added them to their Apple/Google wallet or printed them. Those tickets will remain valid as-is. However, once the setting is updated, ticket details will be hidden on the tickets page immediately for all orders, including those previously sold. So if a buyer hadn't already printed or added them to their mobile wallet, they would be prevented from accessing them again until your specified time.

4. Scroll down and set Display Mobile Tickets

Display Mobile Tickets

Use this field to set how many hours before the Event Instance Date mobile tickets become available to patrons.

If left blank, mobile tickets will be available to patrons right away.

The number of hours set for "Display Mobile Tickets" does not affect your box office's ability to print tickets or patrons' ability to access virtual events.

If you update the "Display Mobile Tickets" field in the future, please note that the change will take effect immediately for all existing and new Ticket Orders.

Here's what patrons will see if all tickets in their order have delayed access:

All Tickets have Delayed Access

This example also has a Reseller Warning at the top!

But if only some tickets in the order have delayed access, patrons will see something like this:
